Summary:

The Safety Director is responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of the Gilbert Mechanical AWAIR Safety Program. The Safety Director is responsible for the workplace safety program and strong culture of safety. This position provides advice and guidance to company management as well as field employees in keeping the company compliant with the Gilbert Mechanical AWAIR Safety Program and other local authorities. The ultimate goal of the Safety Director is to create a zero injury working environment. This is done through creating an appropriate level of knowledge, awareness, and preparedness throughout the entire company regarding effective safety practices and balancing overall associated costs. The Safety Director will work with Gilbert Mechanical’s safety consultant and safety committee in developing the safety program and initiatives. This position will also manage the performance and duties of Gilbert’s Safety Coordinator, who is a direct report to the Safety Director. The Safety Director will report to senior management.

Responsibilities

  • Order and maintain all personal protective equipment
  • HazCom management with GHS changes
    • MSDS/SDS Management
    • Hazardous waste disposal management (light bulbs, batteries, mercury, circuit boards, coil cleaner, oil)
  • New employee safety orientation
  • Train the trainer (Forklifts, scissor lifts, etc.)
  • AWAIR Safety Program improvements and management
  • Weekly jobsite inspections and reports to project managers
  • Coordinate and track:
    • Training
    • Discipline
    • Toolbox Training
    • Safety reward program
  • Aid in procedures for onsite operation (confined space operations, fall hazards, etc.)
  • Lower key safety metrics
    • Experience Modification Rate (EMR)
    • Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR)
    • Days Away, Restricted, or Transferred (DART)
  • Review job contracts for safety content
  • Complete safety questionnaires
  • Lead, organize, and document:
    • Bimonthly safety meetings (meeting minutes)
    • Semi-annual safety meetings
    • Foreman safety meeting
  • Apply for safety awards
  • Accident/injury
    • Investigation
    • Documentation
    • Corrective action plan follow through
    • Managing loss time
  • OSHA 300 Log
  • Set-up and maintain drug testing program
  • Set-up and maintain near miss reporting program
  • Inspection of all safety equipment
  • Vehicle management
  • Handle theft, work comp, general liability, and vehicle claims
  • Main point of contact for all safety items/questions
  • Develop strong safety culture
  • Stay abreast of current and emerging technical and professional aspects of this position
  • Oversee compliance with OSHA, EPA, DoT and other local authorities
  • Maintain building safety
    • Fire extinguisher inspections
    • Maintain OSHA required posters
    • Weekly eye wash inspections

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in risk management, safety engineering, industrial safety and health, safety management, or closely related field
  • Safety management experience
  • Prefer OSHA-10 and OSHA-30 certification
  • Prefer construction project management experience
  • Ability to multitask
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to recognize onsite risk factors and take appropriate action with firmness and tact
  • Understand that safety is an important element of marketing
  • Prefer certified first aid/CPR trainer status
  • Sense of responsibility and ownership for project
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Understand and follow protocol for the proper lines of communication (i.e. understand whom our contract is with)
  • Clear understanding of Company mission and values
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team
  • Self-motivating
  • Detail oriented, organized, and results driven

Compensation: $100k-$130k, depending on experience
