Position Summary
The Project Accountant is responsible for financial oversight and support of assigned construction projects within the Sage 300 ERP/CRM environment. This role ensures accurate job cost tracking, timely billing, and strict compliance with contract terms, lien waiver requirements, and internal controls. The Project Accountant partners closely with Project Managers to maintain financial accuracy, mitigate risk, and support project performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate job cost records in Sage 300, including labor, materials, subcontractors, and equipment
  • Prepare and process customer billings (progress, T&M, and contract-based) in alignment with contract terms
  • Monitor project budgets vs. actuals and proactively identify and communicate variances
  • Support monthly WIP schedules, including revenue recognition, cost accruals, and margin analysis
  • Review and validate subcontractor invoices, ensuring proper documentation and compliance before payment
  • Manage and track lien waivers (conditional/unconditional), ensuring completeness and compliance prior to release of payment
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation of all project financial activity across Sage 300 and supporting files
  • Assist with collections by tracking receivables and partnering with PMs on aging balances
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, contract requirements, and company policies
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (AP, Payroll, Operations) to resolve discrepancies and maintain data accuracy

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 2+ years of construction or project-based accounting experience preferred
  • Experience with Sage 300 (or similar ERP systems) strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of job cost accounting and revenue recognition
  • High attention to detail with a strong compliance mindset
  • Notary Public preferred (or willingness to obtain shortly after hire) to support lien waiver execution

 

Base salary: $70k-$90k per year. This role may be eligible for participation in discretionary bonus plan based on company and individual performance.
Notes: Actual compensation will be based on skills, experience, and work location, and may vary from the posted range. Hiring bonuses (and any guaranteed year-end bonuses) are administered under Company policy and are not earned until all stated conditions are met (e.g., active employment on the payment date).
